PepsiCo was named as one of the best companies for diversity by Black Enterprise magazine in its third annual list, featured in the July 2007 issue. PepsiCo was lauded for its senior management and marketing strength in the article. This is PepsiCo's third consecutive appearance on BE's "Best" list.
"This recognition shows PepsiCo's continued strength and leadership in Diversity & Inclusion, one of our key initiatives," said Ron Parker, SVP - HR, PepsiCo North America. "We are honored to be cited by Black Enterprise magazine -- the most authoritative publication in this important market, which is respected by professionals, entrepreneurs and students for its thought leadership and business acumen."
BE's corporate diversity survey focused primarily on activities related to the participation of African-Americans and other ethnic minority groups in four key areas: supplier diversity, senior management, board involvement, and employee base of the top-grossing 1,000 publicly traded companies and the 50 leading global companies with significant U.S. operations.
The magazine's experts agree that although all four areas are important in determining a company's commitment to diversity and inclusion, procurement and senior management are the most clearly measurable. BE weighed these two categories most heavily, because of their impact on the communities in the jobs and opportunities they create. In the area of senior management, PepsiCo was listed among the 15 best.
"In developing this year's list, we wanted to make sure we identified companies that viewed diversity as a business imperative," says BE Careers and Lifestyle Editor Sonia Alleyne. The report also examined companies on a secondary category: marketing and outreach, based on advertising, promotions, community outreach and scholarships -- another category in which PepsiCo was listed among the best.
