While the JobStreet.com Employee Confidence Index in July saw the downward shift due to elections and fluctuation, the index went into an upward trend in August.

“The announcements made by various MNCs and organizations on setting up of shops and services in India, and increasing their employee strength have resulted in increased confidence. Also, the general market scenario, which has been upbeat and optimistic, is adding to the increased Employee Confidence Index,” says Mr N Muralidharan, Managing Director of JobStreet.com, India Operations.

While there has been an increase in the jobs in the ITES and Telecommunication, the jobs in the Manufacturing, HR and other sectors have also relatively increased in August.

This innovative index launched in March 2000 for India, measures jobseeker confidence levels month-on-month via a questionnaire on the JobStreet.com India Site. The Index is measured by polling jobseekers at JobStreet.com’s website (http://in.jobstreet.com), with the question: “What are the chances of securing a reasonable job in the Indian job market today?”

The JobStreet ECI is a measure of a jobseeker’s confidence in finding a job. It ranges from zero (Very poor) to 100 (Very good). A low index shows a tough job market where many people find it difficult to get a job. A high index shows a comfortable job market were many people are able to secure a job.

The index fluctuates with time and its trend is an important indication of the production and economic developments of the nation. The sampling size for each month’s index averages about 500-1000 respondents.
